McNeil Consumer Healthcare has issued recalls for many of their non-prescription (“over-the-counter”) medicines intended for use by children, including infant’s/children’s TYLENOL, infant’s/children’s MOTRIN, children’s ZYRTEC, and children’s BENADRYL. Please check the websites of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and McNeil for further details:

Update: H1N1 (swine flu) Flu Shots

UPDATE - Our offices have H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine. We are following CDC recommendations regarding vaccinating high risk groups, although it is available for all patients now. Information about H1N1 flu and vaccine is available at flu.gov.

We are out of Seasonal Flu Vaccine at our sites and do not anticipate obtaining additional doses this year. We have had it on order, but unlike previous years, it is no longer available from the vaccine supplier.

We have started running Patient Advisory Groups at our Amherst, Jefferson, and Sheridan offices which will meet once every 3-6 months to gather feedback and suggestions about our practice. We are working on several initiatives to improve our practice and are genuinely seeking help from the patients and families we serve. Developing Our Patient-Centered Medical Home

We are currently working with Independent Health and 19 other primary care practices in Western New York as part of a collaborative learning experience to refine our Patient-Centered Medical Home. The goal of this two year (2009-2011) project is to better organize the way primary care offices run to ensure that health care based on the best available evidence is provided consistently. Part of the focus is to improve the design of our practices to make it as easy as possible for the health care team to provide high quality care, and make it as easy as possible for patients to obtain high quality care. A related grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services is allowing us to improve training of our future family doctors in these the approaches.
